Ottawa Senators Midget AAA Showcase

Thank You for an Outstanding Tournament!

In three days of hockey, 25 teams featuring over 500 of Ontario’s finest Midget ‘AAA’ hockey players rolled through the doors of the Bell Sensplex and Richcraft Sensplex with the hopes of capturing the title and calling themselves Champions. Unfortunately there could only be one winner in the end.

A tournament that started at 25 teams soon became one as the Ajax-Pickering Raiders took home the crown with a 5-0 win over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in Sunday’s Final of the 10th Annual Ottawa Senators Midget AAA Showcase Tournament. From the opening faceoff to the final buzzer, both teams put forth a valiant effort. With action in both ends, this game was up for grabs. After a scoreless first period, Ajax-Pickering’s Andrew Hughes broke the tie. The Raiders never looked back as they would eventually score four more goals and sealed the victory.

A special congratulation goes out to Ajax-Pickering Raiders forward Andrew Hughes who was named Tournament MVP, scoring a total of 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) including four game-winning goals in seven games. Congratulations to Andrew and the rest of the Ajax-Pickering Raiders on winning the 2014 Midget AAA Showcase Tournament!

On behalf of the Ottawa Senators, the Ottawa Valley Titans, and the entire Bell Sensplex and Richcraft Sensplex staff, we would like thank all participating teams for taking part in this year’s Midget AAA Showcase Tournament.  We wish you all the best of luck in your upcoming seasons, and look forward to seeing you all again soon!  Have a safe drive home!

And then there were two ...

The semi-finals are in the books as the Toronto Jr Canadiens and the Ajax-Pickering Raiders were victorious in their respective matchups setting the stage for what will be an outstanding final.

In the first semi-final, the Toronto Jr Canadiens took on a challenging opponent in the Mississauga Reps.  With action in both ends, this game came down to the wire, but it was the Jr Canadiens that would prevail as they edged their opponents 6 to 3.

The second semi-final was equally as exciting as the Ajax-Pickering Raiders took to the ice to face-off against the North York Rangers.  In this game, it was the goaltenders who stole the show making save after save, keeping their teams in the game.  However, the Raiders would pull away in the third period with a 4-0 victory, and booking their ticket to the finals.

With the finals upon us, be sure to head over to the Mattamy Homes Arena at the Bell Sensplex to find out who will take home the crown and call themselves Champions of the 10th Annual Ottawa Senators Midget AAA Showcase.  Puck drop is at 3:00pm.  See you there!!

And then there were four ...

What a wonderful end to another exciting Scoreboard Saturday. Following a very exciting round-robin where the goaltenders stole the show, eight teams advanced to the playoffs, which commenced this evening on all four pads.

Here is a breakdown for tonight’s Quarter Final matches:

On the Mattamy Homes Arena, the Brampton 45’s (Methot Division) took on the Mississauga Reps (Ceci Division), with both teams looking to extend their weekends into tomorrow. On the Canadian Tire Arena, the hosts Ottawa Valley Titans took on the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, looking to spoil their perfect record and punch their ticket to the semi-finals. On the Palladium Arena, it was a battle of OMHA rivals the Ajax-Pickering Raiders and Barrie Colts.  Rounding out the Quarter Final matches on Scotiabank was GTHL rivals the North York Rangers and Don Mills Flyers.

It came down to the wire, with some of the most exciting playoff games played in the evening and all fans in attendance had to wait for the final sound of the buzzer to find out who was moving on to the next round of the Showcase Tournament playoffs. In the end, only a select few could move on to Sunday morning’s Semi-Finals.  Here are the results from tonight’s matchups:

Ajax-Pickering Raiders (5) vs. Barrie Colts  (2)
North York Rangers (4) vs. Don Mills Flyers (3)
Toronto Jr. Canadiens (1) vs.  Ottawa Valley Titans (0)
Mississauga Reps (4) vs. Brampton 45’s  (3)

Tonight’s winners are back at it tomorrow morning with games starting at 10:30am.  Come out and see who will advance to the tournament finals.

In the first semi-final matchup, the Ajax Pickering Raiders will take on two-time defending champions the North York Rangers. In the second semi-final match, it will be another battle of GTHL rivals as the Toronto Jr. Canadiens take on the Mississauga Reps. Good luck to all teams in your semi-final matches.
